I Dreamt The Sea
and the sea became me,
fathomless depth under waters still,
beautiful creatures of fin and gill
swimming through cerulean silence

I Dreamt The Sea
and the sea became me,
The roar of waves, crashing on the shore
one infinite drop part of something more
awash in unceasing emergence

I Dreamt The Sea
and the sea became me,
drifting along on an endless tide
a surface obscuring so much more inside
reflecting the sun’s blinding brilliance

I Dreamt The Sea
and the sea became me,
treasure untold, hidden and forgotten
lying in wait, nestled at the bottom
revealed only through unending patience

I Dreamt The Sea
and the sea became we,
each being part of an infinite whole
a system relying on each single soul
floating together in eternal balance.

Note 6/18/10: Although I wrote this a few months ago, the words have a very timely import for the present, as we direct our energy toward recovery after the BP oil spill and pray for healing for the beautiful, life-giving waters in the Gulf of Mexico…
that they may be cleansed of oil and returned to their pristine condition and that the living creatures that inhabit these waters be protected, nurtured and preserved.
