A little holiday encouragement…
I shared this story on Facebook when this photo came up in my Facebook memories today, but I thought it would be a good one to share here as well.
An example of “Close one door and another one opens:”
I did high-end event work for many years. I enjoyed it and it afforded one of the best paychecks in music. I love the challenge of being a vocal chameleon… adapting my voice and style on the fly (and I’m very good at it :) ), but there came a time when I “lost that loving feeling.” It wasn’t feeding my creative soul and I already had a day gig. (I’m not one to do things just for the money.) So, I quit my band on a Friday night before a slow month off. I performed one last gig with them as a band member the next night, then opened my self to what would come next.
On that Monday – two days after I quit – I received an email from a guitar player looking for a vocalist for original music in the vein of Evanescence, but edgier (a perfect fit for me). And so it began…
and it has evolved beyond what I envisioned at the time and continues to expand. And I have evolved and expanded along with it.
The moral to my story:
Listen to the voice inside and don’t be afraid to take a leap. You’ll find your wings :)
(Interesting that this photo came up in my FB memories for today, yet it says August 19 (apropos timing). Great memories are meant to be shared any day… especially when they fuel an inspirational retrospective.)
May you all find your lights within and let them shine…
this holiday season and always.
Listen to the voice inside and take that leap… You’ll find your wings.
