“Your work is not to drag the world, kicking and screaming, into a new awareness.
Your job is to simply do your work …
Sacredly, Secretly, and Silently …
and those with ‘eyes to see’ and ‘ears to hear’ will respond.”
~ The Arcturians
I saw this quote shared by a few friends on Facebook yesterday and it spoke to me. The image is one I captured last week while drinking in a gorgeous sunset over the Gulf of Mexico.
It’s an excellent and much needed reminder, especially in view of what I – and others – have been experiencing as we move through our journey. I believe these challenges are there to strengthen our resolve to carry on and remain on The Path. Not everyone is going to “get it” yet (lots of “stuck” people – centuries of societal conditioning.) They will get there… with time and when they’re ready.
Here’s the kicker: Don’t be surprised if they take shots at you in the meantime. This has been a hard – and frustrating – fact for me to reconcile… for many years. I am (and have always been) a loving, giving soul who desires to be open to others in need if there’s a way I can help (I’ve had much practice from a very young age with 3 younger sisters – I’m positive that this was an important part of my development), but I realize that we are not all on the same page and there are times when my energy is better applied elsewhere.
Someone dear to me reminded me of this recently: those who constantly complain and dwell in negativity aren’t asking for suggestions or solutions or “help”, they just want the attention. It’s not surprising: changing, elevating, “fixing” yourself is hard work and it takes as much unlearning as it does learning.
If we recognize that it is in our power to fix what we feel is wrong with our life, we also have to admit that we had some hand in creating it… not so comfortable. Add to that the mentality prevalent in our societal “pack mind” conditioning – strength in numbers for the weak.
No, it’s much easier to shoot the messenger.
Allow “the sillys” to be just that.
(I use that same term of endearment when I talk to our duckys when they act up. When they really act mischievously – like digging up my brand new seedlings – I call them “stinkys”, but that’s fuel for another blog ;)
You can lead a horse to water,
but you can’t make him drink. You can give someone the answer,
but you can’t make them think.
There’s no way to make someone understand what you have learned and continue to learn (even when it could help them), they have to want it for themselves. It’s much more effective to do your work and strive to be an example of possibility… Just be you and the rest will follow.
